20 Random Things About Me

1. I am deathly afraid of snakes. I don’t believe in joking around when it comes to them. If you play a prank and I survive the scare without having a heart attack then you will be on my bad side until I get over it. Most likely forever…just saying. 🙂

2. I am not a fan of group text messaging. I feel like I am being held hostage. Lol  I hope my friends reading this don’t take this personal.  I know it is easy to get a message to everyone in one text when it’s a group; however, all the responses from the thread can get overwhelming.

3. I was born in Cambodia and came over to the U.S. as a refugee to escape the Killing Fields. I am a very proud naturalized citizen of the United States of America. Btw, did you know that the test you are required to take to become a citizen is really hard?  I joke around that most Americans probably can’t answer many of the questions.

4. I am the first person to graduate from a four year college in my family and am a successful career woman. I get my strong work ethic from my Mom. Lady worked two jobs to make ends meet.  She is pretty amazing!

5. I am a boy mom and wouldn’t have it any other way. I have three of the most handsome boys ever (just a little biased). I am raising them to be respectful young men.  Here’s a favorite pic of them from a couple years ago.

6. I seriously love cooking and feel like I could write a cookbook. I find so much joy in making people happy by filling up their bellies.  My specialty is probably my chicken cacciatore.

 7. I am a horrible baker. I can’t bake well at all. I feel like baking is such a science and it’s just not my thing. I get more frustration out of it rather than pleasure.

8. I am a middle child. Don’t know what that says about me; however, I do think I am outspoken because I had to standout to get noticed. That also helped me develop my outgoing personality.

9. If I could decide on any career today at my age, I honestly would be an interior designer. Who doesn’t love shopping for beautiful home decor with someone else’s money?! Ha!

10. I am married to a home builder so I kind of get to live out that interior designing dream by aiding in the designs of his homes. Follow @cedarbendhomes on instagram for some new construction inspiration.  He builds some amazing homes in God’s Country (aka College Station…home of the Fighting Texas Aggies, Whoop!)

11.  I am not an Aggie, but I married into an Aggie family.  Husband’s family with the exception of his mom (U of H grad) all went to college there.  My FIL played basketball for A&M.  We are hoping that we are raising at least one or two future Aggies. I went to school at Stephen F. Austin State University and have met some of my nearest and dearest friends from my college years.

12. I love fashion. I feel it is a way to express yourself. The way you dress is an expression of your taste and style.

13. I grew up in a tiny town in SE Texas. About as close to Louisiana as you can get, so I got the best of a Texan and Cajun upbringing combined. Delicious food which probably led to my passion for cooking. I have a heavy Southern accent. As far as growing up in a small town, I get teased often because my Southern accent is super thick. People look at me and would not for one second think that accent would come out of my mouth.

14. English is my second language. I speak two languages. English and Cambodian.

15. I feel like I live in a bubble sometimes, I don’t watch the news. I honestly sometimes don’t know what is going on with current news until someone sends me text message. I find that the news can be very depressing.

16. I am often in the clouds. I travel a lot for work. Almost weekly and am fortunate to see many parts of the United States. There are so many gorgeous destinations here in the states. Blessed to see some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

17. I am beyond passionate about my career. I work in Cancer Diagnostics. I hate cancer. It has taken too many people too soon. I take my job and career very serious.

18. I am a firm believer that everything truly happens for a reason. Although there are times we seem we are at a low point in our lives, we always get through it and look back and learn from those trying times. Learn from your mistakes, grow from them. Failure is not a bad thing. Failure means try again. Success comes with many failures along the way. Failure is only failure if you give up and don’t try again.

19. As much as I am proud of my career and success, I would rather be remembered for being a good wife, wonderful Mom and friend. I work hard to try to be the best version of myself so that I can be of value to those who are important in my life.

20. I love the poem The Dash and that’s where Dash of Luxe is derived from. I believe we all should live the Dash between our years and make them count. Life is too short.

This pic of me really does a great job capturing me.  The leopard print should tell you that I have a very fun side and I am full of personality.  As you get to know me, you will see that I love accessorizing.  I feel by accessorizing, it helps me look more polished, refined and sophisticated.
